Here's some of the comments and feedback we are getting about Soapods:

Email from Claudia. Cork, IRELAND.
"My husband recently bought a bag of your Soapods (laundry soapnuts) in Centra in Union Hall, county Cork, and we've been using them daily for the past couple of weeks, for washing the family's clothes. There are 4 of us, and the boys' clothes are quite a test. I previously used (another natural washing product) most frequently, but feel so good about using something so unprocessed and natural, and even compostable, that I'm totally converted. Well done, I thoroughly approve, and even feel like buying them for my friends & family in county Cork and abroad!! They clean our washing just as well as (other washing products) if not better, and I like to think that the waste water is perhaps even less damaging to our septic tank and the valley below our cottage, with all its abundant wildlife. The packaging is wonderfully minimal & simple as well."

Blog comment from Richard on Soapods laundry soapnuts
"They look like dried up conkers dipped in toffee, but they're here to save the planet".

July/August 06 catalogue for Infinity Foods Wholesalers & Shop Brighton, UK.
Soapods-detergent from the soapnut tree.
"New are Soapods for laundry cleaning in 3 sizes. They are the nuts of the soapnut tree-a native on India and Nepal, which yields saponin on contact with water. The saponin as a natural soaping agent that cleans the clothes in an economic, effective, sustainable and non- polluting way. When the nuts have been used about three times they are exhausted and can be composted whilst the bag is refilled. The gentle action reduces colour fading and does not necessitate the addition of fabric softener.

Be a part of it as Soapods nut is loosed from David's sling and hits Goliath (Proctor & Gamble, Lever Brothers etc) squarely and fairly in the temple.

The revolution may not be televised, but it may start in your washing machine!"

Blog comment from 'Misty Moon' "I've been using Soapods for over a year now and can't see myself ever going back to using conventional washing powder. Even when my housemate has done her washing and it's hanging up I find the smell overpowering and wonder how I didn't think so for years using Bold/Ariel etc. Now I just think my clothes smell clean and occasionally I add a few drops of lavender oil if I want something more.

I was unconvinced at the beginning and spent ages sniffing clothes after washing and even making sure I noticed where they were dirty and checking where those stains were to make sure that they were clean now. I never found anything though so had to admit finally that Soapods do work.

I also have to admit that I took to watching the washing machine to make sure there really was soapy stuff coming out! I am sad, I know. What finally convinced me I think was the day I forgot to put the bag in the wash and washed my clothes just with water. They definitely were not clean afterwards so just washing in water doesn't work."

Email from Jono in Herefordshire, UK. January 06 "Hi, here's a testimony: Since I have been using Soapods I have been feeling a lot better about my contribution to the upkeep of the environment. They're easy to use and don't clog up my washing machine with gunk.

As they're cheaper than detergent I don't understand why everyone isn't using them, why not buy some as a gift for a friend. They'll love Soapods!"

Blog from Rebecca. November 2006 "I've been using Soapods too for quite a while. We began using them as my daughter has very sensitive skin and even washing powders of the gentlest kind agitated her eczema. A little reading up on the ingredients tells one why! The Soapods were a big hit and her skin calmed considerably. I find them just fine for getting out stains etc. Even if the odd stain stays in, I'd rather that than the alternatives. I love the fact that we can also pop the brown paper bag packaging into the compost!"

Blog from Steve and Misha. December 2006 "Dear Soapods,
I'm sure you're aware of this, but once in regular use we've found the Soapods also do the job previously done by conditioner - the clothes esp. woolens is wonderfully soft.

This effect will vary according to water hardness but we thought it worth mentioning as yet another benefit. We've been able to stop buying conditioner - better for the environment and our wallet! With best wishes."

Comments from Ecologic, Shop selling Soapods in IRELAND. Though the Soapods travel (by ship) I would think that their overall environmental impact is less and they also help sustain people in less advantaged areas of our planet. They use no energy in the production or disposal process for the product or the packaging.

Anna O'Sullivan describes her experience of trying out Soapods Why did I try (Soapods)?
I was sent information about Soapods and was interested as I have sensitive skin and normal detergents often irritate me. I'm also very concerned about my impact on the environment and want to choose the most natural and ethical way to live.

What is it?
Soapods are 100% natural and work as a detergent in washing clothes. They are nuts harvested from the Soapnut tree native to India and Nepal.

Are they environmentally friendly and fairly traded?
This was a major concern for me, however I was reassured that they are organic and 100% natural and unprocessed, and the company is working towards getting Fairtrade status from the Fairtrade Foundation. Soapods are also sent by ship rather than aeroplane.

Did they work?
I was sceptical at first; they have a very distinctive smell which may take some getting used to. However this does not linger and I found my clothes smelt very clean. I used 6 Soapods (laundry soapnuts) and this was adequate to get a full laundry load of clothes clean. You can use them up to 3 times to wash your clothes then you simply compost them.

Would I use them again?
Yes, they worked well and don't seem to have irritated my skin. I haven't tried them on very dirty clothes but can always add eco friendly detergent if necessary.

Anna Shepard, writes the Eco-Warrior column in Body & Soul
"And you thought you were green for using Ecover washing powder...You can go more natural than that. I have just had my first experience with Soapods. You throw a handful of these acorn-sized fruits (they come from the Indian soap nut tree) into a little cloth bag and then put it in with your washing. Don't be put off by their peculiar smell that goes away when you use them. My clothes didn't smell at all when they came out. If you want a pleasant whiff to your laundry, the company recommends putting a few drops of essential oil, such as lavender, into the fabric conditioner dispenser. I'm quite impressed. It looks like a proper hippy gimmick to leave you with grey undies. But, so far, these nuts aren't half bad."

Review from Fiona Marlow from Weymouth "These work well. They have removed dried mud completely and various stains such as grass and ink. The washing smells clean and seems to be less stiff after drying. I recommend these, especially as they are no more expensive than brand washing powder."
