PHILOSOPHY

Soapods philosophy is founded on being a progressive, ethical and eco-friendly company. We strive to empower each individual to make a difference to the planet and in their lives through the choices that they make, and encourage becoming an aware and ethical consumer. We believe it is in our hands to make a difference!

At Soapods we put this into practice through providing high-quality, completely environmentally friendly and ethical products, which are:

  • 100% Organic
  • Cruelty Free, Not tested on animals
  • Sustainable
  • Renewable
  • 100% Natural (grows on trees)
  • Affordable (actually cost less per wash)
  • Really works (read our testimonials!)

Additionally, we support fairtrade and hope to work on helping to establish fairtrade criteria for soapnuts, which currently does not exist. In the meantime, we have been to visit places in India to learn first hand how soapnuts are harvested and see working conditions for ourselves.

And we happily support and work with like minded ethical and eco-friendly businesses and organisations!

ETHICAL CONSUMERISM

Adopt a "fully-screened" approach and exercise your power as a consumer:

  • Positive Buying. Favour ethical products such as organic, fairtrade and cruelty free.

  • Negative Purchasing. Avoid products you disapprove of such as battery eggs, chemical cleaners or polluting cars.

  • Company Purchasing. Target businesses as whole, for example by boycotting a company and its subsidiaries, you can prompt positive change forcing them to adopt ethical business practices.

    THE BENEFITS OF ETHICAL CONSUMER
"Buying ethical products sends support directly to progressive companies working to improve the status quo, while at the same time depriving others that abuse for profit. For example, when you buy an eco washing up liquid you're giving its manufacturers the funds it needs to invest in clean technology and advertise its products to a wider audience. At the same time you're no longer buying your old liquid, so its manufacturers loses business and will perhaps change its ways.

Another attraction of ethical buying is its convenience. After all everyone needs to go shopping at some time. As an ethical consumer every time you buy something you can make a difference.

The benefits to society of buying ethically are potentially far-reaching. It encourages innovative products and companies while discouraging others that ignore the social and environmental consequences of their actions. It empowers the consumer, giving you a say in how the products you buy are made, and how the company that makes them conducts its business. Ethical consumerism can and has made a difference in the past."

    OUR HISTORY

In 2006 I found soapnuts in an ashram while in India. I bought some to share with friends…it wasn't long until I needed more, and more, and all of my friends and family were using laundry soapnuts!

I totally fell in love with them as a product, and was using them exclusively at home to wash my clothes and also using the liquid I made from the soapnuts for all my other household cleaning. I also realised how much cheaper they were than the other eco products on the market, and they really worked!

I then decided that there was a potential opportunity for an eco-friendly and ethical business, and so I started SOAPODS, the eco-friendly way to wash your clothes.

As the company grew more and more people were telling me how much they loved them. After selling SOAPODS laundry soapnuts in Ireland for 6 months, a friend introduced me to Tim, the sales director of Community foods in London to see if he would be interested in stocking SOAPODS.

soapnut harvesting in India Community foods are one of the largest wholesale distributors of wholefoods in the UK, but they sell very little "non-food" products. I will always remember the look on Tim's face when we tipped the SOAPODS laundry soapnuts on to his desk! But to his credit he tried them and decided to launch SOAPODS at the Natural Products Show in London April 2006 as our sole UK distributors.

The show was a huge success and SOAPODS laundry soapnuts went nation-wide in the UK soon after. Community and the Soapods team now working with me were delighted and surprised at the reaction and level of interest in SOAPODS.

I hope you enjoy using SOAPODS as much as we do!

    Penny Morgan,
    Soapods Founder & Director
